Barceló Maya Palace

This is the largest and most exclusive all-inclusive property in the vast five-hotel Barcelo Maya Beach Resort complex. It is located between Puerto Aventuras and Xpu-Ha, about 15 minutes south of Playa del Carmen. The resort is on the northern end of the complex and appeals primarily to families and couples; its superiority in this enclave is apparent throughout the public areas and in the accommodations. Dining options here are the best in the compound.

The open front entry treats arriving guests with a dramatic view of the ocean. Guest rooms are housed in two- and three-story Mediterranean-Mayan-influenced structures, staggered back from the beach to maximize views of the beach and pools. Lush tropical gardens give the entire space a bit of a magical and faraway feeling.

The resort has three a la carte specialty dinner restaurants: French, Brazilian and Caribbean. There are also two venues serving breakfast and lunch buffets, and a beachside grill serving casual lunches and dinners. Guests can also enjoy 17 additional restaurants within the Barcelo complex including a Japanese teppanyaki room, and a free train runs between the resorts on a regular schedule to the delight of hungry and curious guests.

Active guests will enjoy the hotel fitness center, a massive swimming pool (with separate adult area including sunken-in-the-water lounge chairs, swim-up bar and kids’ water park), nine lighted tennis courts, sport courts, minigolf, water polo, volleyball, sailing, windsurfing and kayaking.

The majority of the accommodations are 800-sq-ft junior suites, with roomy sleeping areas and distinct, well-proportioned sitting areas with sofa beds. The accommodations’ calm contemporary decor is the most attractive of the quintet of Barcelos hereabouts, with well-chosen earth-tone soft goods that blend modern and traditional patterns.
